I had the pretty opportunity to see Calvin Johnson play a set last night in Brooklyn. It was pretty inspiring, and it brought me back to my brief Beat Happening obsession in 2006-07. That was one of the first times I truly understood that music is whatever you want it to be. Calvin’s voice sounds exactly like it did in the Beat Happening days, and some of the a capella songs he played were hilariously good. Additionally, it was entertaining to see some dudes almost get into a fight because annoying people were talking too much. Also, I’m disappointed I forgot to pick up a copy of the Believers tape. $$$$ probs.
