upsidedowngorilla asked: you seem to be a person who knows what the good shit is. i'm two songs into bend beyond and it's already vastly different from woods' other releases while still feeling like it's them and being pretty great. i always felt as though they went too far into the psych thing and their only shimmer of greatness was in their very brief and minimalistic folk songs, but this album i feel is really incorporating everything nicely. whatchu think?
haha I like to think I know what’s good and what not, so thanks for that compliment. I definitely agree with your take on things. I think some of the best Woods songs are the short pop/folk songs (“Blood Dries Darker, “Suffering Season,” “Rain On”) and I am absolutely in love with “Cali In A Cup” right now. The thing that excited me most about this album when looking at the track list was that it lacks that “long song” like “Out of the Eye,” “Sol y Sombra” or “September with Pete.” There’s nothing wrong with those songs, but they just bog down the albums. I think At Echo Lake is my favorite Woods album, and it lacks those long songs. I think Bend Beyond might top it though. I don’t like the cover art at all though, hah. And so for the psych rock parts, I’ve stood through a 15-minute version of “Bend Beyond.” It was pretty awesome.
This is really long, but I like Woods a lot so I have a lot to say.
