I’m not really sure what it is about my luck with teen suicide releases, but it just seems like all of them drop when I’m out at parties. Back in February, I got back from a shindig to find DC snuff film floating around the Internet. Yesterday afternoon, Eric hooked me up with the files for i will be my own hell because there is a devil inside my body and said they were looking at an official release sometime next week. Of course, I ran into Sam and Eric at a party last night and they said they’d just dropped i will be my own hell. Timing y’all.
Anyway, this new release sees the now-trio take a little more melodic direction with their tracks. It’s not quite as blown out as DC snuff film, but the more refined production just highlights the raw emotion in each track. I wrote about the demo for “give me back to the sky” a few weeks ago, and it remains the standout track for the album, with added piano and strings. It’s an evolution in sound for teen suicide that goes along with the stripped down tracks “cop graveyard” and “grim reaper.” (I just ran into writer’s block). Check it out. Also, with this release and the release of the ricky eat acid + arrange Sketches, it’s been a good few days for Sam Ray’s music.
