The Babies - “Caroline”
Live at 285 Kent in Williamsburg, Dec. 20, 2011.
Last night, The Babies were just overwhelmingly solid. The new songs sound so great and they really have a great, great raw energy. They have come a long way from Death By Audio in August 2009. I can’t wait to see them open for Real Estate in January in D.C.

Tonight
Tonight marks my return to Brooklyn for the first time since the end of September/beginning of October. Even though it’s just for an overnight, it’s still something. The Babies, Widowspeak and Dive are playing at 285 Kent tonight, so, logically, that’s where I’ll end up. I’m a huge Babies fan and the self-titled was one of my favorites of the year. I saw Widowspeak in August at Bowery Ballroom and was impressed with the body of work it has, and I really liked that album as well. As for Dive, I’m on the fence because it sounds exactly like Beach Fossils to me. So we’ll see. And as for 285 Kent, well I have some fond 2011 memories of the place. I’m looking forward to the return.
Plus, I’ll be up in Brooklyn for New Year’s for something or other.
