Gary - House Of A Thousand Horses
I’m on a quick vacation in Oregon right now so I didn’t want to try to post anything except for a couple of photos here and there ‘cause it’s so awesome out here. But tonight, Nick messaged me on here to tell me to check out his little brother Gary’s music. Gary plays bass in Total Babes, which is associated with Cloud Nothings, so obviously I might be into it. And I am. House Of A Thousand Horses is a collection of five fuzzy pop songs ranging from 1:16 to 2:51 in length. I’m not really sure how to describe most of the songs, but there’s the earworm guitar lines and overall feel-good feel. Gary’s vocals have some reverb, but they seem to float through the space in the tracks with lines like “Are you having a good time?” from “Mineola” and “We can play dress up on the weekends” from “Anything” and “Where are your friends tonight?” from “Nice To Meet You.” Plus, there are some shredding guitar solos/lines scattered in throughout. It’s really rad music in the same vein as Total Babes, and I’d assume it’s under the radar. Give it a listen by clicking through or clicking here.

Today — Sept. 18, 2012 — marks the release of Buddha Jabba Momma from Cleveland’s Chomp. This band is not a side project even though Joe Boyer and Jayson Gerycz play in Cloud Nothings and Chris plays in Total Babes. Chomp is a collection of Joe’s songs and they are some sweet pop punk jams. Click here to order the record from Exit Stencil or click through to stream it at the Chomp bandcamp.

Chomp - “Mind Rape”

Joe Boyer is one of my favorite musicians out there right now, through his work as a guitarist in Cloud Nothings and Total Babes, in addition to countless other Cleveland projects. “Mind Rape” is a track from Chomp, an indie pop/rock project masterminded by Boyer. This track is a rocker from the start with quite an edge, perfect to imagine a bunch of kids jumping around in a dark basement to. Basically, it’s awesome. Boyer’s vocals fluctuate between snobby and genuine, pulling the listener throughout a tour de force. Also, the song is called “Mind Rape.”

Chomp’s BUDDHA JABBA MOMMA is due out eventually Sept. 18 on Exit Stencil Recordings. It’s streaming here on SoundCloud.
